Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1.5 cups Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoon Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. 2. Add whole wheat flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. 5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  6. 6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
  7. 7. Boil the bagels, 2-3 at a time, for 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet.
  8. 8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
