In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let it stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
Mix in sugar, butter, salt, and egg. Add flour gradually to make a soft dough.
Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down dough and divide into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
