Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoon unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk, cold

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Fold the dough over onto itself a few times to create layers, then pat it out again to about 1 inch thick.
  6. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet. Gather the scraps, pat them out again, and cut more biscuits until all the dough is used.
  7. Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.
