Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Flatten each ball slightly and make a small indentation in the center. Fill the indentation with the onion mixture.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
