Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar.
  3. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly. Shape into a round loaf and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Cut a deep cross on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
