Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter cold and cubed
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter and rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for a minute, just until it comes together.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
