Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk warmed
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 2 eggs room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
Decoration
- 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
- ¼ cup sprinkles
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal parts. Roll each part into a long rope and braid them together. Form the braid into a ring and place on a baking sheet.
Brush the ring with beaten egg and sprinkle with sprinkles. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
