  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk just until moistened.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently 8-10 times.
  6. Pat or roll the dough to 1-inch thickness. Cut with a floured 2-½-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
