  • 1 package Active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 2 cups Buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  6. Roll out dough to ½ inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  7. Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
